Introduction
This section collects our guides on travel photography techniques and composition. Easy-to-read and understandable tutorials, written with the passion that defines us, to help you become a better observer and photographer. Let's jump in!
Photographic Composition
In this section there are our guides on photographic composition, in the sense of framing the scene. Our goal is to help you develop the skills needed to create balanced, harmonious photographs and to shoot with greater awareness.
Photography Theory
In this chapter there are our articles on photographic theory. Timeless topics, with a particular focus on colors and their psychology, on how to represent them correctly through white balance, and on standard formats. We also explore how photography is evolving and changing with the increasing popularity of smartphones.
Photographic Technique
In this section are collected the most technical guides, written for those who shoot with DSLR cameras. Whether you want to understand how different settings affect your shot or how lenses work, these guides are for you.
Thoughts
Writing these articles on composition and technique in travel photography gives us the chance to fully express our passion for photography. This was also a way to rethink and write down all the skills we acquired over the years, while continuing to grow and always learning something new.
It's been almost fifteen years that we have followed, off and on, the hobby of photography. Since those who think they know everything cannot learn anything new, we keep the mindset of those who have a lot still to learn, with eyes open to innovations and trends in photography and photo editing.
Having a basic knowledge of photography is essential to achieve more beautiful travel photos. Whether they are just for your personal use or to share with others, a nice photo taken with awareness will always be preferable to a less appealing one.
All of our photography guides have been written over a long period of time. We read them periodically, revising and updating them with the latest news and pieces of knowledge we acquired, but there may still be occasional details that need to be updated or polished. In such cases, we apologize; it's likely that on your next visit you'll find the guide corrected and refreshed.
Our First Camera
A brief introduction may be necessary: we are quite experienced with technology, as it has been our profession for more than twenty years and our passion for much longer. Since anything digital has always been our passion, we bought a cheap digital camera when it was still far too early.
We had low expectations, as we were young teens. The specifications would be considered ridiculous today; it didn't even come close to one megapixel. For the curious, it was a Creative Video Blaster Webcam Go, which shot at 640x480.
A few years later we bought an Olympus bridge superzoom camera, which offered several advanced features. That was the spark. We wanted to understand all those confusing concepts: shutter speeds and why they increased with higher zoom levels. That's when our passion truly began.
At the same time, we also became interested in a program called GIMP, which was extremely powerful for creating and editing images. We needed it to take our first steps, both to create the graphics of the website we were working on and to edit our photographs.
Our first website
In 2010 we launched our website, Mora-foto, which collected guides and tutorials on photography and photo editing using free software. After many years of satisfaction, we decided to retire the site and close it. Since the idea of losing fifteen years of work was overwhelming, we chose to move Mora-Foto to the Blogger platform. If you are curious to see it, you can click here. This way it would always remain freely accessible, as we always do.
On one hand, we had many photography articles that we felt were well written, still relevant, and interesting. On the other hand, we had this website that talks about vacations in a town surrounded by stunning mountains and nature. So, we thought of combining the two to give our readers valuable tips to improve their travel photos.
